I will be returning in June for the amazing <\/span>Flash Fiction Festival in Bristol, England<\/a> and once again, am teaching a 3 hour pre-festival workshop! Registrations for this are now open to anyone, separate from the whole weekend festival, so if you’re unable to attend for the entire weekend, you still may come just for this. <\/span>Nuala O’Connor is teaching a session on Historical Flash at the same time<\/strong> (I wish I could clone myself so I could attend her class as well!) <\/span>These workshops take place Friday, June 19th from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Brain, a Heart, and a Home (with a Dash of Courage): Writing Flash Fiction that Soars with Kathy Fish<\/strong><\/p>\n

Do you have a cool idea for a flash, but it falls flat? Or a flash that\u2019s rich in emotion but you can\u2019t quite figure out what it\u2019s about? Maybe your flash \u201cworks\u201d on a superficial level, but you sense there\u2019s a deeper story to be told.
\nAny or all of the above are what prevent good flash fiction from becoming GREAT flash fiction.
\nIn this three-hour class, we\u2019ll look at how to write flash that transcends the ordinary. We\u2019ll write to fun, inspiring prompts and we\u2019ll also do a revision exercise aimed at deepening the work. Students can expect to come away from this session with at least one new story and lots of new tools for crafting and revision.\u00a0Feel free to bring an existing draft to work on as well!<\/p>\n

During the festival, I will also be teaching two 1.5 hour sessions of Getting to the Heart of the Matter: Creating Emotion and Yearning on the Page<\/em> and I will also contribute to the Saturday panel \u2018Flash Point: Flashfiction as Social Commentary\u2019 chaired by Charmaine Wilkerson.
